Air
filters serve an important function for air conditioner units since
cooling units depend on airflow to operate efficiently. Air conditioner
filters keep particles such as dust, dirt, soot, pollen, even pet
dander, mold, lint and smoke out of the air conditioning unit. AC
filters trap these airborne particles that can clog the unit slowing
down airflow, which can result in decreasing your air conditioners
efficiency and its cooling capacity. Filters that are clogged s
over tax the air conditioners fan in addition to slowing down
the airflow.
When filters are not cleaned or replaced on a
regularly they will continue to trap dirt, dust and other airborne
particles until they become clogged and ineffective. Once the
filters are clogged with dust and debris, the ac unit can no longer
operate optimally. Therefore, one of the easiest ways to ensure
that your ac remains energy efficient or has an extended lifetime
is to incorporate filter maintenance into your air conditioning
cleaning routine.
Changing disposable filters and cleaning permanent
filters monthly is a great idea. Of course, given that air conditioning
units are generally used more frequently in the hotter summer
months, you should clean or replace your filters more frequently
as your air conditioning use increases.
You can always check the filters to see whether
it is time for cleaning or replacement. Filters that are clogged
with dirt and debris become noticeably dirty when it is time to
be cleaned or replaced.
There are different types of air filters on the
market, including pre-sized filters and filters that are cut to
size by the homeowner. In addition, homeowners can purchase magnetically
charged filters which work like magnets to remove a greater amount
of airborne particles, including smoke, pet dander and smoke,
from the air. Sellers of electromagnetically charged filters claim
that these filters are more effective than traditional air filters.
Whichever filter you choose for your unit, a clean air conditioner
makes a cooler home.
