When there is a problem with any of your air
conditioner parts, the first thing you need to determine is whether
air conditioning repair is covered under your current warranty or
service plan. The manufacturer typically offers the warranty and
the service plan is usually an additional level of service that
is provided by the seller of your air conditioner. Whether you take
your unit to be repaired by an independent service provider not
directly affiliated with air conditioner manufacturers or an authorized
dealer you will also need to determine the year, model and serial
number of your unit, and check to see if you still have your original
receipt, because this information is often requested by the company
that will repair your machine. If your unit is outside of the warranty
or service plan period, you will also need to consider whether the
cost of repair is worthwhile, considering the value of the air conditioner.
If the air conditioner is not worth much money, it may be more cost-efficient
to simply purchase a new unit.
Even if the warranty period has expired, you should
always contact the manufacturer to determine whether the company
will offer free air conditioning repair or some other compensation
for the damaged parts. Sometimes, a manufacturer will determine
that an entire line of acs is defective and, in these cases, the
manufacturer will often compensate the homeowner for the defective
unit by repairing or replacing the unit, and sometimes offering
rebates or some other compensation.
If the ac is no longer covered by a warranty or
service plan, there are steps you can take to determine if you
can make any necessary fixes yourself before calling a professional.
If your ac no longer cools, you may want to check to see if the
unit and the filters are clean. If the unit is leaking water,
check to see if the condenser has become blocked by something,
or the condensation pump needs to be replaced. If you remove any
debris that is blocking the water and clean the dirty filter,
you should be able to eliminate the source of the leak. If none
of these problems are evident, however, you may need to call a
professional.
